Snow burst triggers flurry of wrecks here

By BETH CRACE State Journal Staff Writer Published:

Less than an inch of snow and freezing temperatures were to blame for multiple car wrecks Saturday.

Local police and city officials reported roadways throughout Frankfort and Franklin County were a slippery mess as the result of an early December snowfall.

There were 18 automobile accidents in three hours, according to Frankfort Police. Twelve of those were non-injury while six accidents resulted in injuries.

Between noon and 3 p.m. Saturday, city and state police were bombarded with accident reports. The interstates, Cardwell Lane, the hill along Louisville Road and East Main Street, and the Thornhill Bypass were reportedly the most treacherous areas.

Bridges, ramps, hills, and areas where asphalt changed to concrete created the most problems for drivers.
