County calls off school due to snowy roads

By MELISSA ARNOLD State Journal Staff Writer Published:

The overnight mixture of snow and ice led Franklin County Public Schools Superintendent Monte Chance to cancel school today because of the slippery road conditions.

Wayne Dominick, the system's communications coordinator, said the decision was made after Chance and Mark Watson, director of transportation, checked the county roads earlier this morning. Dominick said the rural roads were especially bad.

"The rural roads were packed with ice and snow," he said. "The superintendent made the decision to cancel school at 5 a.m. this morning after conferring with Mark Watson."

However, the weather seemed to cause little trouble elsewhere in Frankfort.
