DUI murder suspect still in jail, $500,000 bond set

Robert Hutchinson Jr. is in jail today waiting arraignment on murder charges following an alleged drunken driving accident which killed Frankfort businessman Charles Wilson.

Hutchinson, 37, was arrested early Thursday in Shelbyville and charged with murder and resisting arrest after the 2002 Ford truck he was driving collided with a tree and killed Wilson, 48, a passenger and owner of Wilson's Nursery on the East-West Connector.

Hutchinson lives on Cropper Road in Pleasureville, and works at the nursery. He's being held in the Shelby County Detention Center under a $500,000 cash bond.

According to a report from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Hutchinson told police he'd been drinking whiskey and beer. The report said Hutchinson smelled strongly of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and he was unsteady on his feet when sheriff's deputies arrived.

Sheriff's deputies reported Hutchinson failed a field sobriety test, but refused a breathalyzer test and was uncooperative when arrested.
