Home found for severely abused dog

Hunter, the dog found last month suffering from extreme neglect and an imbedded collar, has been adopted.

Frankfort/Franklin County Kennel Manager Regina Mitchell said Hunter was adopted Tuesday just in time to join his new family for Christmas.

Mitchell said a couple who once took in a dog who had suffered from an imbedded collar and nursed him back to health decided they wanted to adopt Hunter.

Hunter is a year or year and a half old basset hound and German Shepherd mix who was suffering from an imbedded collar when he was found in the Green Wilson Road area. His neck measured 17 1/2 inches and his collar was 15 inches in length - fastened at the 11-inch hole.

"They knew all about the nursing and care it would take," Mitchell said. "I guess they just opened up their hearts and took him in right before Christmas."
