Kentucky State University announced Friday that Dr. Mary Evans Sias will be the second presidential candidate to be interviewed by the KSU Board of Regents, beginning Wednesday.
Sias is senior vice-president for student affairs and external relations for the University of Texas in Dallas. She joined the university's "administration as associate provost, and, concurrently, as associate professor in the school of general studies" in 1995, but before this she served for 13 years as CEO of the YWCA of Metropolitan Dallas, according to a press release from KSU.
As senior vice-president, she "carries oversight and administrative responsibility for issues affecting prospective and current students." Sias also supervises the Women's Center. Also, she is responsible for special initiatives such as sports, the international student office and the multicultural center. Sias is one of three members of the President's Cabinet where she helps "set policy and provides oversight for issues affecting the university," according to the press release.
Sias, a native of Jackson, Miss., is a summa cum laude graduate of Tougaloo College. She received her MBA from Abilene Christian College. Also, as a Ford Foundation Fellow at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, she received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in sociology.
