Murder charged in fatal accident

An 18-year-old man is charged with murder after crashing his vehicle into a tree Saturday night in Peaks Mill, killing an eighth grade student at Elkhorn Middle School.

Aaron Jackson, 14, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials. Another passenger is listed today in critical condition.

Michael Troy Dean Jr. is accused of driving a Chevrolet Blazer carrying eight passengers while under the influence of alcohol and or drugs. Dean hit a tree head-on at the intersection of Sullivan Lane and Stillhouse Hollow Road, according to a Franklin County Sheriff's report.

Franklin County Sheriff Ted Collins said there were four female and four male passengers ranging in age from 14 to 24 in the Blazer.

Dean was scheduled to be arraigned today at 11 a.m. in Franklin District Court on murder, seven counts of wanton endangerment, driving under the influence and operating on a suspended driver's license.

He's been held at Franklin County Regional Jail on a $120,420 full cash bond since the accident late Saturday night.

Five of the passengers were transported to Frankfort Regional Medical Center where they were treated and released, according to the Sheriff's report.
