Constable sets plea of guilty

A Franklin County Constable is expected to plead guilty Friday to federal child pornography charges.

Russ Campbell, 59, and a Franklin County constable for more than 20 years, is currently under a federal indictment for possession of child pornography, conspiracy to distribute child pornography and distribution of child pornography.

He's been held without bond at the Fayette County Detention Center since his arrest last Dec. 10.

Campbell's attorney, David Guarnieri, has filed a motion with U.S. District Court to change Campbell's arraignment plea to guilty instead of not guilty so he may pursue a plea agreement.

The U.S. charges against Campbell on conspiracy and distribution charges each carry a penalty of from five to 30 years in prison and the possession charge carries a penalty of not more than 10 years in prison. There is no parole in the federal prison system.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Wohlander said today he expects to offer Campbell 30 years in exchange for a guilty plea.

Campbell is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court at 1:15 p.m. Friday to enter a guilty plea.
