Alleged deputy misconduct will be investigated

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says it plans to contact the Attorney General to perform an internal investigation of alleged improper conduct by of one of its deputies at the request of the grand jury.

According to the grand jury report filed at the completion of the January-February session, jurors heard testimony “regarding alleged improper actions involving the arrest of a female subject by a Franklin County deputy sheriff.”

The grand jury took no action on the allegation but recommended that an internal investigation be conducted.

No formal complaint was filed at the sheriff’s office. Sheriff Pat Melton says more details will be available after the investigation is concluded. He declined further comment.
