A Frankfort native died Wednesday in a Florida plane crash, just months before he planned to move home, according to a family member.

Twenty-five-year-old Justin Gaines, who attended Western Hills High School, diedwhen a small plane crashed in a wooded area at the end of a Melbourne International Airport runway.

Gaines was a general manger for Premiere Theaters, a Florida theater company, where he worked for several years while he lived in Palm Bay, said his father, James Gaines of Frankfort.

“He loved the theater business,” said James Gaines.

His father said Gaines planned to visit Frankfort next month and propose to his girlfriend, Tara Densler, of Florida.

“He was a great kid who loved life,” James Gaines said.

Justin Gaines had three brothers, Joshua, Zachary and Ethan, all of Frankfort. His mother, Teresa Grimes, is also of Frankfort.

Also killed were Robert Kurrus Jr., 44, and James Franklin, 24.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

Services are pending at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.
