Donations will help teens go to prom in Salyersville

A Frankfort woman is collecting hair accessories and looking for nail technicians and beauticians to help Salyersville teens put on their high school prom.

Melissa Wright, owner of Razzle Dazzle Dresses, has been working with members of the Salyersville High School faculty for the past few weeks to help organize their high school prom. Salyersville, in Magoffin County, was one of the communities hit hardest by the March 2 tornadoes.

Wright delivered more than 100 prom dresses, 60 of them donated from her shop, to the school Tuesday. A business in Lexington is giving discounts on tuxedo rentals, and Ruby’s Gifts and Flowers are donating the corsages, but Wright says the girls need help with accessories. Wright is asking for people to donate curling irons, hair straighteners and other hair accessories to help the girls get ready for prom.

“A lot of these students and families have nothing,” she said.

Wright is also looking for local beauticians, hairdressers and nail technicians to travel with her to Salyersville for prom weekend, May 4 and 5, to help her do the girls’ hair and nails.

Anyone wishing to donate accessories or help Wright with hair and nails can call her at 330-6461.
