UPDATE: 6-year-old hit by SUV, killed

By Kevin Wheatley Published:

A 6-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a sport utility vehicle while riding his bike on Excel Court late Saturday, according to Coroner Will Harrod.

Charles Semones, who was not wearing a helmet, died from blunt force trauma to the head after the accident, Harrod said. Semones was hit in the Silver Lake subdivision around 6 p.m. Saturday, and the driver, Pamela Smith, 60 of Frankfort, was inconsolable at the scene.

Semones’s bike, shoes, a small pool of blood and emergency medical equipment were in the street as police worked the scene. The maroon Jeep that hit him was parked nearby.

His parents were notified and with their son at Frankfort Regional Medical Center around 6:30 p.m., police said. Semones was pronounced dead at 7:09 p.m., Harrod said.

Paramedics performed CPR on the boy before he was taken to the hospital, but other details of the accident were unavailable.

“He was on his bike and he was hit by a car here on Excel Court, and that’s really all I’ve got right now,” Frankfort Police Lt. Ken Hopkins said at the scene. “I’m still trying to get information as it comes in.”

Hopkins said an accident reconstructionist had been called to the scene.

Semones was a student at the Early Learning Village, The State Journal has learned.
