UPDATE: 81-year-old woman OK after crashing into salon

By Kayleigh Zyskowski Published:

A Frankfort woman walked away without injury after she drove her car through a support beam while at John Michael’s Salon Tuesday for a hair appointment.

Joan Burke, 81, drove her 1998 Cadillac Deville over the yellow parking block and into a support beam – knocking it over – around 11:30 a.m. at the strip mall at 1100 U.S. 127 south.

Larry Moore, owner of John Michael’s Salon, says he heard a loud boom, and thought someone fell when the woman hit the beam.

A city planning and zoning employee said the building was structurally sound, and the numerous offices located inside the strip could continue their usual business.

Moore says he will keep the area roped off until he can get some extra support beams in place.

“The car can be fixed; I’m just glad the woman is all right,” he said.
