Funny fence catches neighbors' attention

State Journal Staff Report Published:

Neighbors at Capital Mobile Home Park are talking about Wayne Gipson’s funny fence. Living in trailer 84 with his wife, Doris, the retired Gipson says he’s not sure why he decided to paint his picket fence with several colors and squiggles and spots.

“I had some paint sitting around, and the neighbors donated some paint, and I just started doing it,” Gipson said about the project that began in March and finished this week.

He and fellow retiree and neighbor Sterling Gibson painted the fence with 1-inch brushes. Both men said they like to pass the time by piddling in their yards, and they have flourishing gardens to prove it.

Their wives – who aren’t fans of the fence – joke, “It takes a true redneck to paint a fence like that.”

Gipson doesn’t mind the ribbing, saying “All my neighbors love it.”
