Man injured after tractor flips, lands on him

State Journal staff report Published:

An elderly Frankfort man is recovering at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after his tractor flipped over Saturday morning.

Leslie J. Mitchell, 70, had just finished dumping some dirt at his McCann Lane home around 9:30 a.m. when his Farmall 1066 tractor started going backwards downhill, struck a tree and rolled over, pinning Mitchell underneath, his wife told responding Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies.

Franklin County Fire Department and Frankfort EMS also responded and “worked vigorously” for about 30 minutes trying to extricate Mitchell, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.

“I asked the deputy on scene and he thought (Mitchell was trapped) kind of on one side, on his hip, leg and arm,” Dep. Russ Persons told The State Journal.

Once he was freed, Mitchell was flown to UK Chandler Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, Persons said.
