With $19,929 in the bank, a City Commission candidate has outraised every candidate in Tuesday’s primary campaign, according to election finance records.
Robert E. Roach collected money from 41 local contributors by May 7, and raised about $9,000 more than any other candidate in the commission or mayoral races, according to the state’s records. Roach has also spent more – $9,883 – than any other candidate in the campaign.
Mayoral candidate Donna Hecker ranked second in campaign funding and topped both of her opponents – Bill May and Kyle Thompson – with $10,865 collected from local supporters, according to the records. However, Thompson has spent more than Hecker or May with $8,760 in campaign costs, and has spent all but $9.03 of his funds.
May – running in his fourth race for mayor – reported raising $9,477. Of that sum, $1,250 was from in-kind donations from Terri’s Catering, Marcus Brothwell and Laura Keeler, and $500 was donated by Steptoe & Johnson Bluegrass, PAC. Hecker reported $525 of in-kind labor from Holly Hill Inn, where she works as a manager, and individual donations from Fiscal Court Magistrate Jill Robinson and owner of Cornerstone Art Gallery, Ellen Glasgow.
Thompson, a local attorney who raised $8,770, reported one in-kind contribution of $307 from Harlan Pinkston, and took in funds from local business owner William Wingfield, of Crossroads Ford, for $200 and several local attorneys.
Candidates filed finance reports with the state Registry for Election Finance that were due May 7.
