Woman charged with fleeing scene of accident

A Frankfort woman faces seven charges in Franklin Circuit Court – including a multiple offense DUI and using a phony identity – after she wrecked her car and fled the scene, a local prosecutor says.

Jackie Bowling, of 3585 Camp Pleasant Road, was arrested May 11 after she drove her vehicle off Sullivan Lane and walked away from the wreck, says Commonwealth’s Attorney Larry Cleveland.

She was later found standing in front of a store smelling of alcohol and admitted operating the wrecked vehicle, Cleveland said.

“They took her into custody, and she kicked a window out of the car on the way to jail,” Cleveland said. “Then she made some threats – in a colorful way – that she’d harm the officers.”

She also gave the officers a fake name when she was arrested, Cleveland said.

Bowling, 40, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol – fourth offense, leaving the scene of an accident, criminal mischief, failure to produce insurance card, terroristic threatening, operating a vehicle on a suspended license, and giving an officer a false name.

Also indicted by the Franklin County grand jury Wednesday:

>Denise Lewis Higdon, 28, of 549 Shenandoah Drive, for two counts of assault, resisting arrest and menacing.

Higdon allegedly fought with deputies when they attempted to arrest her on a warrant for a parole violation May 18. She is also charged as a persistent felony offender, because she was convicted of attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud in 2009.

Deputy Stephen Campbell – who was cut on his hand with a knife during the struggle – said he did not want to use a Taser on Lewis Higdon, because she is pregnant.

>Matthew Tackett, 40, of Lexington, for theft by failure to pay sales tax to the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet.

Tackett allegedly owes about $26,570 in sales tax to the state from his business – Hydro-Tech, in Lexington.

>Kenneth McDonald Jr., 36, of 103 Wild Cherry Way, for theft by failure to pay sales tax to the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet.

McDonald allegedly owes about $28,873 in sales tax from Breighton Liquors, in Shelbyville.
