Summer Concert Series kicks off tonight

The 2012 Farmers Bank Summer Concert Series begins tonight at 7 p.m. on the lawn of the Old Capitol with performances by Exit 99 and The MetroGnomes.

The annual Farmers Bank Summer Concert Series ushers in the summer season with the first of seven Friday night concerts this year that are free, family-friendly and open to the public.

The MetroGnomes, a 17-piece big band based out of Jessamine County, will launch the series at 7 p.m. with a variety of jazz, Latin, rock and swing music. Local band Exit 99 will hit the stage for the second half of the evening with their brand of classic rock, blues and Motown.

Downtown shops and restaurants will be open and the streets in front of the Old Capitol will be closed, creating a pedestrian-friendly space for the concert.

Broadway will be closed between Lewis and Washington streets and St. Clair Street will be closed to traffic between Main Street and Broadway.

The series is organized by Downtown Frankfort Inc. and sponsored by Farmers Bank, the Frankfort Plant Board, Beam Inc., the Frankfort Convention Center, Frankfort Parks Recreation & Historic Sites, and the Kentucky Historical Society.

The concert series will continue throughout the summer with performances on June 22, July 6 and 20, and Aug. 3, 17 and 31.
