An elderly woman driving the wrong way on High Street struck a pedestrian outside the State Office Building around 9:50 a.m. today, according to police.
Capt. Rob Richardson with the Frankfort Police Department said the pedestrian, a woman whose name has not been released, was crossing High Street at a crosswalk when the elderly woman, whose name has also not been released, hit her with her Ford Focus station wagon.
The injured woman was taken to Frankfort Regional Medical Center with injuries that Richardson said were not life threatening. Dispatchers said the woman possibly suffered a broken leg.
The investigation is ongoing, and Richardson said the driver would not have seen caution signs alerting motorists to the pedestrian crossing.
“If you were coming from the opposite direction, you wouldn’t have these signs,” Richardson said of the caution signs on High Street. “There’s no warning because the street’s a one-way street.”
