Students raise $1,500 for little Zach

State Journal Staff Report Published:

The eighth-grade students at Bondurant Middle School raised approximately $1,600 for the Progeria Foundation in honor of 5-year-old Zach Pickard, who was diagnosed with Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, a fatal disease characterized by a rapid aging process.

The students heard about Zach through his cousin, Seth Pickard, an eighth-grade student at BMS.

Seth spoke to his classmates to educate them on the disease and raise awareness. They raised the funds through the 15th annual Food Fest, a culminating economics event.

Students Landon Arflack and Rachel Pipes, whose team raised the most money, presented Zach’s family with the check for research during the Bondurant Awards Day ceremony on the last day of school.
