The Frankfort man accused of falling through the ceiling of Frankfort Regional Medical Center after allegedly ingesting “bath salts” was Tased and arrested Wednesday night after a foot pursuit near Peaks Mill Road, Sheriff Pat Melton says.
Edward Craine, 35, was discharged from the hospital in December after ingesting the synthetic drug, but re-entered the building and ran to the third floor in his underwear, Frankfort Police said at the time.
He crawled up into the ceiling tiles and tore down the ceiling over a stairwell, Commonwealth’s Attorney Larry Cleveland said after Craine was indicted in January. Five rooms were damaged. He was lodged at the hospital for several days following his fall.
Craine was arrested Wednesday night after being on the lam since he was released from the hospital, Melton said today.
Sheriff’s deputies tried to arrest Craine – who was with two others in a truck on U.S. 127 – after receiving a tip from a resident about his location. However, Craine took off on foot toward Cove Spring until a deputy tased the man, Melton said.
After the December hospital incident Craine was indicted for criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, public intoxication and acting as persistent felony offender. After the foot chase from Peaks Mill Road to nearly Cove Spring Park, Craine faces the added charges of resisting arrest and fleeing police.
He is lodged at Franklin County Regional Jail on a $68,000 bond.
