CHARITY GRILLING EVENT IS SEPT. 22

The 2012 Grill Master Grill Off will be 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Anderson County community park on U.S. 127.

Admission is free but donations are sought to benefit the county’s first free medical clinic for qualifying adults with chronic illnesses who do not have medical insurance.

The grilling competition is open to adults, children and teams, with categories including meats, vegetables, fruits, tofu, desserts, side dishes, rubs and sauces that can be prepared at home and submitted for judging. “Two Bald Guys & a Grill” will stage a grilling demonstration. There will also be musical entertainment, grilled food, a silent auction, raffles and activities for children.

FCHS CLASS OF '72 REUNION IS SATURDAY

The Franklin County Class of 1972 will hold its 40th reunion on Saturday at the Frankfort Country Club, 101 Duntreath. There will be a cash bar, music, dancing and hors d’oeuvres. The cost of the reunion is $50 per couple and $35 for single. Dress is casual. Teachers are welcome.

DELTA ACADEMY, GEMS OPEN HOUSE SATURDAY

Frankfort Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host the Delta Academy and Delta GEMS Open House on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Education Center, 101 Lakeview Ct., 9:30 a.m.-noon. All middle and high school girls in Frankfort, Franklin County and surrounding counties (Anderson, Shelby and Woodford) are welcome.

Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is a mentoring program for middle school girls ages 11-14 years, which meets on the third Saturday of every month for activities that include, but are not limited to workshops and hands-on activities dealing with self-esteem, science, math, technology and many other areas.

Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS Institute is an outgrowth and continuation of the Delta Academy Program. The Delta GEMS mentoring program is for high school girls ages 14-18 years to provide a framework to develop a “CAN DO” attitude.

It is designed to provide interactive lessons and activities that offer opportunities for self-awareness and individual growth. It also meets the third Saturday of every month for activities that include personal development, health and wellness, college and career planning and scholarship workshops as well as do-it-yourself projects.
