Cause of water death still unknown

Death of man originally from Mexico being investigated as a homicide

By Kevin Wheatley Published:

The cause of a Franklin County man’s death in Scott County will be known by Friday, Scott County Coroner John Goble says.

Jorge Zamudio Flores, 29, was found dead and partially submerged in Elkhorn Creek by a fisherman near Georgetown Friday.

His death is being investigated as a homicide, but it’s unclear how Flores died.

Goble says he will not release a cause of death until lab results are returned, which should be Friday at the latest. Flores’ body showed no wounds from a knife or gunshots, Goble said.

“That’s why we’re waiting to get the tests back,” he told The State Journal.

Flores lived on Owenton Road, but is originally from Mexico. The Mexican consulate in Indianapolis is working to transport Flores’ body to Mexico, Goble said.
