Fire engulfs house on Benson Avenue

No one inside, cause unknown

State Journal Staff Report Published:

An apparently abandoned home on Benson Avenue caught fire around 9:30 this morning.

There was no electric or gas service to the house in Bellepoint.

Firefighters could not pinpoint a cause, said Eddie Slone, assistant chief for Frankfort Fire and EMS. No one was in the house.

Someone spotted smoke, which could be seen from Capital Plaza Hotel, this morning and called authorities. Three fire trucks and other emergency vehicles surrounded the green house as smoke flowed out of the windows. The fire was quickly quenched, and firefighters began tearing parts of the house away to get the smoke out of the walls and the ceiling.

The fire is still under investigation.
