RARE LOSS FOR HILLS ACADEMIC TEAM

After 13 wins in a row, the Western Hills High School academic team was defeated by Sayre Monday night by a score of 121 to 101. 

Hills started off strong, up 2 points after the written round. The team won the science round of quick recall and tied in language arts, but lost in math, social studies, and arts and humanities. Sayre has a very strong team this year, but WHHS hopes to play them again in the tournament this December.

Top scorers in the written round were Derek Phillips in math and humanities; Andrew Bates in science; Cam Newton in language arts; and Newton, Justin Crim, and Evan Moore in social studies.

In quick recall, the top scorers were Phillips in math; Bates in science and humanities; and Newton in social studies and language arts.

Hills hosts Franklin County on Oct. 29.

FLU SHOTS AT SENIOR CENTER

Flu shots will be given at the Senior Activity Center Oct. 16 from 10-11 a.m. An application for the shot must be filled out prior to the shot. Applications can be obtained from Dianna Rogers, outreach coordinator at the Center, by visiting or calling 223-5794.

Medicare Part B, Medicaid and Humana insurance will be the only things accepted to pay for the shot. Attendees who don’t have any of those will be charged $25 for the shot.

ANNUAL TOY RUN IS SATURDAY

The 24th Annual Toy Run is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Walmart. All proceeds will be used by the Franklin County Fire Department to benefit underprivileged children in the county. Kickstands will go up at 2 p.m. for motorcyclists to be escorted to deliver the toys to the Evergreen Road fire station.

COMMUNITY DANCE SATURDAY IN MILLVILLE

There will be an old-fashioned community dance Saturday at the Millville Community Center.

The dance starts with dinner at 6:30 p.m. and music by the Capital City Country Dance Orchestra begins at 7 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults at the door, and it is free for children.

The event is a fundraiser for Kentucky Heartwood.

HOLIDAY GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP THURSDAY

Hospice of the Bluegrass will offer its annual support group for adults who are living with the loss of a loved one during the holiday season from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at the Hospice Community Building, 643 Teton Trail.
