(AP) — A former conservation officer for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has agreed to pay a $10,000 fine after admitting that he violated the state ethics code.
The Executive Branch Ethics Commission approved a settlement agreement Monday in the case against Dennis Sharon of Worthville. Sharon, who also received a public reprimand, was accused of using his position to benefit his private interests as a commercial fisherman.
Ethics Commission Executive Director John Steffen said Sharon and an assistant were catching paddlefish in restricted areas and selling their eggs as caviar.
Sharon also faces criminal charges.
The Ethics Commission also reprimanded former Department of Agriculture marketing supervisor Michael Fitzgerald of Eminence and levied a $10,000 fine against him.
Fitzgerald admitted that he had misused state property for personal benefit.
