UPDATE: Man in wreck on I-64 has died

State Journal staff report Published:

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says that the man involved in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday on Interstate 64 has died.

The Sheriff's Office originally reported Thursday in a press release that Rico Turner of Louisville died in the wreck, which happened at approximately 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

But Sheriff Pat Melton contacted The State Journal Thursday afternoon to say Turner was still alive and had been transported to the intensive care unit at University of Kentucky Hospital. He said misinformation from Turner's family led to the error.

On Friday, the Sheriff's Office said Turner was now deceased.

Turner, the only person in the vehicle, was driving a red 2008 Pontiac when he crashed at about the 50-mile marker of the westbound lane.

Collision reconstruction experts from both the Sheriff’s Office and the Frankfort Police Department were on the scene.
