GOP chair sends letter to Dems about Ashley Judd

Associated Press, Published:

(AP) — State GOP Chairman Steve Robertson has sent a letter to Democratic lawmakers raising concerns about actress Ashley Judd as a potential U.S. Senate candidate.

Although Judd is not an announced candidate, the former Kentucky resident now living in Tennessee has been talking to Democratic leaders about challenging Senate Republican Leader Mitch MConnell in his re-election bid next year.

Robertson included an attachment to his letter with comments Judd has made on a wide range of issues that he insists are out of step with the average Kentuckian. Among them were statements opposing coal, the mining of which employs some 15,000 people in the state.

Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear said Tuesday Judd would be "an effective and formidable" challenger to McConnell.

  • Paul Ryan's tax plan is the same old tax plan that he and Willard ran on and LOST in the 2012...its austerity was summarily rejected by the people in that election. The Republican plan offers no revenue and all spending cuts to magically balance the budget, but the math doesn't add up any more than the people want to cut (read : privatize) Medicare and SS to fund tax cuts for the ultra wealthy. We had the clear choice to select the Republican plan and we chose not to. Somebody needs to tell Ryan, as he only watches FOX News like MD, and thus hasn't gotten the message yet. This one is DOA.

  • The Center for American Progress’ Seth Hanlon points out, “Three-quarters of the $2.4 trillion in deficit reduction that had been enacted since 2011 has been in the form of spending cuts, and only one-quarter has come from increasing revenue.” Hanlon also details $1 trillion in tax breaks for corporations, special interests and the rich that could be eliminated without raising tax rates on any Americans: How many of these are Speaker Boehner and Senator McConnell willing to consider? Not one. They want drastic cuts to Medicare and Social Security. And in exchange, they’re offering: Nothing. And for some reason, this isn’t considered worthy of mention in the majority of the so-called “liberal” media.

  • The Dems "lost" seats in the 2012 House races even though they collectively got 5 million more votes...ha, ha, ha! Very funny. ........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... It seems that in the 438 races for the House of Representatives, more votes does not necessarily translate into a majority. Taken in total, the Democrats received about 49 percent of the votes in all 438 of those races. The Republicans received about 48.2 percent, but the Republicans will have a 39-seat majority in the House when the new Congress is seated in January. Many congressional districts are gerrymandered--drawn so their boundaries encompass a reliable bloc of voters for a particular party. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Every 10 years, after each census, districts are redrawn and seats in the House are reapportioned, depending on each states' change in population. The last census was completed in 2010, and Republicans swept back into office during the Tea Party revolution, so they controlled the redistricting process, redrawing many boundaries to maximize their hold on the House. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... The tactic worked, and the House is likely to remain Republican at least until 2020, when the new census and a new Congress will take up their pens once again. Ha, ha, ha, ha! The REpugs couldn't win on the substance so they tilted the playing field! Ha, ha, ha, that it SOOO funny!

  • Spoken like the good republican that you are. But that's okay that you don't like the president's agenda and that's your perogative. But I know what manure smells like so I won't step in yours. Oh by the way:" The following statement from Sec. of State of KY......United States Senator (6 years staggered term) Must 30 years of age, a citizen for 9 years and when elected must be an "INHABITANT" of the state for which they are chosen......RUN ASHLEY RUN!!

Was reauthorized by two republican presidents and congressional bodies. The law is permanent and the 2005 provisions are still in effect. The law was a bipartisan measure until... 2012 when the Obama administration tried to use it as an immigration and glmr tool. Language was added to give illegal immigrants sanctuary hold status in domestic violence cases. Language was also added to provide protected status to same sex couples (of either gender). And the 2012 reauthorization NEVER was even sent to the US House by the Senate for a vote. "VAWA was reauthorized by Congress in 2000, and again in December 2005. The Act's 2012 renewal was opposed by conservative Republicans, who objected to extending the Act's protections to same-sex couples and to provisions allowing battered illegal aliens to claim temporary visas. In April 2012, the Senate voted to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, and the House subsequently passed its own measure (omitting provisions of the Senate bill that would protect gays, American Indians living in reservations, and illegal aliens who were victims of domestic violence). Reconciliation of the two bills was stymied by procedural measures, leaving the reauthorization in question. The Senate's 2012 reauthorization of VAWA was not brought up for a vote in the House. While the bill was not reauthorized, its provisions (as enacted in the 2005 reauthorization) remain in effect." so tell another lie. "American Jobs Act" - He sure did GOOD FOR HIM! • anonymous_1713 March 12, 2013 12:10PM "The Dems are in charge of the White House and Senate and they won the last election on an agenda that is widely popular with the American people. The Dems are trying to enact the will of the people and the Repugs filibuster... " ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** HAHAHAHAHAHA! The Democrats LOST the HOUSE in 2010 and they LOST SEATS in the Senate in 2012.

  • LOL,...please post the date that Harry Reid sent a budget to floor of the US Senate for a vote.... http://hotair.com/archives/2012/02/03/reid-no-i-dont-plan-to-bring-a-budget-to-the-floor-this-year/ and http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Articles/2013/01/29/Reids-Shrewd-Plan-No-Budget-No-GOP-Advantage.aspx#page1

  • Yep HUGE difference....like night and day.

  • The Dems are in charge of the White House and Senate and they won the last election on an agenda that is widely popular with the American people. The Dems are trying to enact the will of the people and the Repugs filibuster... The bills that the House Repugs send up are so noxious and out of step with the stated desires of the American people, that ol Harry has no choice. I see a big difference.

  • "The Repugs filibuster . . . and filibuster . . . and filibuster again" And ol Harry Reid merely tables and refuses to discuss anything sent up by the Republicans. No difference between the two that I can see...

  • ukfan, stop trying to corn fuse Marketing Director with the facts! Also, let him do his own research on what McConnell has done to harm America. There are numerous sites that could be copied and pasted, but why bother for him. He isn't going to believe you anyway! For those of us who have lived through this nightmare known as the McConnell era, we know it very well.

  • Given the obstruction of the Republicans against this president and the Democrats do you REALLY think that if they did put forth a budget that the Republicans would vote for it?........I think we all know the answer to that one.

  • This following statement is from the Sec. of State (KY) website: ...... United States Senator (Staggered 6 year term) Must be at least 30 years of age, a U.S. citizen for 9 years, and, when elected, an inhabitant of the State for which he is chosen

  • Okay MD here is your answer: He voted AGAINST: Middle Class Tax Cut Act...Bring Jobs Home Act...Small Business Jobs & Tax Relief Act....Requirements for labels on genetically altered foods...Paycheck Fairness Act...Extending Student Loan interest rates...Violence Against Women Act...American Jobs Act...Amending Oil company Tax laws...Aid to states for Medicaid & Teacher Employment...Campaign Finance Disclosure Requirements....I can go on if need be. Those are the facts.

  • Still no lists of the things McConnell has wrongly done to Kentucky voters,........ and again: Ashley Judd DOES NOT LIVE IN KENTUCKY; She holds a TN drivers license, does not even own a home in KY, and hasn't lived here for over 20 years. She MUST live in Ky ONE FULL YEAR prior to filing for the intent to run for office. Even if she were to move to Ky today, she would not be in the state long enough to meet that requirement. Stop crying with rhetoric and use facts,... And you are a liar Harry Reid has NOT presented a budget to the floor of the US Senate in over 4 years.....nice try though.

  • Fact is, the Republicans are making all of this noise about Ms. Judd because they are skeered...it is just that simple!

  • Well, Ms. Judd is a very intelligent woman and a graduate of UK, and possibly the biggest fan. She has roots in KY regardless of where she is living now...and let's face it, TN isn't that far of a stretch from KY. She would certainly qualify as an "outsider" and is hardly a career politician, so her goals of bettering this state and having the best interest of the common man at heart are beyond reproach. And isn't that like a breath of fresh air compared to what we have endured with McConnell at the helm? He isn't even a good Republican with his number one priority of seeing that Barack Obama was a one term president through rampant obstructionism which threw the country under the bus. How'd that work out for ya', Mitch?

  • I wish Repugs would give up the whole false debate about not having a budget. The Dems have tried to put a budget through . . . over . . . and over . . . and over again. The Repugs filibuster . . . and filibuster . . . and filibuster again. If the Repugs would let the Dems get some work done without blocking every single bill, maybe we wouldn't be in as big of a mess as we are now. Of course, because the Repugs block everything, they can't blame the Dems for nothing getting done, so they have to make sh!t up. They need to get over it, and do their jobs (which we’re paying for them to be there to do) instead of being pansy little whiny babies.

  • It is time for this greedy, corrupt old white man to be removed from power, he no longer serves the people that elected him, he serves money (remember Jesus threw the money changers from the temple)throw this money changer from the temple of democracy; public service is not about making money from big corporations and off the backs of your constituents McConnell has become corrupt with power, greed and avarice, he works for banking, medical insurance corporations and lawyers the very scum that have schemed and stolen the soul of our electorate to serve their own personal greed rather than enact legislation to help all American citizens McConnell is bent on lowering taxes on the ones who make $500k a year the extreme wealthy and raising taxes on you the working poor citizens of Kentucky/US, please do America a favor and vote this guy out of office, then seize the 32 million dollars he has made while supposedly working for you the people of Kentucky then put him on trial for embezzement & misuse of office in his dis service of the People of Kentucky and America, Senator McConnell's personal fortune is estimated at $32,756,000 in 2009, having increased by $800,002 since the previous year, and ranking as the 12th wealthiest member of the U.S. Political positions power corrupts and greed overtakes the old mans soul service to the citizens of the United States of America has sold his soul to corporations in exchange for wealth greed and avarice He is widely considered a kingmaker in Kentucky Republican politics the good ole boy group of racist whiteys from the 50's and 60;s From 2003 to 2008, among McConnell's top 20 donors have been 5 financial/investment firms: UBS, FMR Corporation (Fidelity Investments), Citigroup, Bank of New York and Merrill Lynch and Satan himself. During his entire political career, the top three industries donating to McConnell have been: Lawyers ($1.5 million), Securities and Investments ($1.5 million), and Health Professionals ($1.4 million)and souless corrupted money changers $?no one knows. In April 2010, while Congress was considering financial reform legislation, a reporter asked McConnell if he was "doing the bidding of the large banks and Satan." McConnell denied working for the banks though it is widely suspected he is in cahoots and works with the moneychangers Jesus once threw out of the temple that work for the banks who work for satan. McConnell has received more money in donations from the "Finance, Insurance and Real Estate" sector than any other sector according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

  • Really the word **** is a banned word here?

  • I would like a list of all the digressions against Kentucky that McConnell has made.....there MUST be a LONG, LONG list. Kentucky has the high honor of having the most Senior conservative member in the US Senate and the Senate Minority Leader. You remove McConnell from office for a softcore **** star and get what in return? I find it completely laughable at the people who ignore the facts to put another liberal in a US Senate that has not posted a budget for over 4 years, and created the very financial battlefield we are struggling through today. "Anybody but Mitch"......really? Post the REASONS WHY. and remember again: Ashley Judd DOES NOT LIVE IN KENTUCKY; She holds a TN drivers license, does not even own a home in KY, and hasn't lived here for over 20 years. She MUST live in Ky ONE FULL YEAR prior to filing for the intent to run for office. Even if she were to move to Ky today, she would not be in the state long enough to meet that requirement.

  • dunno how republicans feel about ernie fletcher, but i would vote for him over mitch. he's intelligent and articulate and wouldn't be an embarrassment like mitch. he had a bit of an ethics problem as governor, but i really think he learned his lesson, and is now ready to make amends.

  • HaightAshbury...are you kidding me? That's the best they have! Now does that tell you how good of a field of canidates they have.....Charles Riggs you better be careful what you wish for.....you just might get it.

  • Surely the Reflublicants can find a better candidate than Mitch,

  • I'd rather have a Senator who showed their @ss in a movie than one that shows that they are an @ss every day on the Senate floor.

  • If Ashley Judd really cared about Ky then she would had lived here. I don't believe for one minute that this idea all the sudden popped into her mind one day. I think that she is being coerced into this & others will actually be calling all the shots if she wins. however, I will vote for anybody that stands the best chance to beat Mitch! As far as her acting? Dude, I would have blasting caps blowing off my close faster than a blink of the eye to make the jack that she does. It's acting, as in acceptable.

  • Ditch Mitch!!!

  • Surely the Democraps can find a better candidate than Ashley Dudd.

  • i like ashley judd as a candidate for senate a lot. ya ever notice how redumblicans are always preoccupied with the democratic message? rather than having a clue what their own message should be? definitely makes elections interesting. ya either do or don't like the democratic candidate. the redumblican? they'll like whatever you like. (8

  • What in **** is the GOP chair doing raising objections about Judd? LET HER RUN!!! Then all her baggage can be hauled out for inspection and the whole state can see what a bozo she is! I would LOVE to see her run against McConnell!

  • OOPS hit key too many times.....

  • I would rather have her who has "oh my gosh SEX" than have a liar and sleeze bag who cares nothing for Kentucky. He sells us to the highest bidding lobbyist that lines his pockets. To me his corruption is far worse than her acting discretion. We need more women in politics because the men sure as **** has screwed it up BIG time. And speaking of "screwed up", what about all those old men in Congress and the Senate being called out for their sexual affairs with women other than their wives. I don't hear you on here berating them for "having SEX". Ashley you have my vote.

  • *McConnell

  • Heck, yeah! I don't care about her supposed sex scenes. I don't care about nudity. I would rather have her than another term of Mitch McDonnell, who is so corrupt he gives politicians a bad name. Go, Ashley!

  • You can't run in a state you do not live in,.... She holds a TN drivers license, does not even own a home in KY, and hasn't lived here for over 20 years. She MUST live in Ky ONE FULL YEAR prior to filing for the intent to run for office. Even if she were to move to Ky today, she would not be in the state long enough to meet that requirement. Her X-Rated sex scenes, where she actually had sex in "Normal Life" and "Bug" that were cut down so the movies would get an R-Rating, and the other 6 or 8 movies where she has been partially nude or totally nude (almost every movie she makes she takes her clothes off), this is the person you want representing you in Congress? Not to mention the other leaders of the world she may interact with?
