Traffic alert: DUI shuts down Louisville Road hill for repairs

State Journal staff report Published:

Police arrested a man Thursday night shortly after he crashed a 1993 Buick into a guardrail and utility pole on Louisville Road hill.

James Chowning, 42, was taken to Franklin County Regional Jail and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol with aggravating circumstances, failure to maintain insurance and possession of marijuana, Frankfort Police Department Maj. Fred Deaton said.

There was a passenger in the vehicle.

The road was closed between Taylor Avenue and Second Street School from 8:29 p.m. to 10:08 p.m., while crews worked to repair the damage.

About 300 Frankfort Plant Board customers lost power.

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday, the road was closed again while crews continued repair work. It's expected to reopen by 2:30 p.m.

Eastbound traffic will take Lafayette Drive into downtown. Westbound traffic will take Ewing Street to Lafayette Drive. Traffic that cuts across Taylor Avenue will have to route up Devil’s Hollow Road to U.S. 127 (West Plaza Connector).
