One woman was taken to the hospital after a three-car crash Friday afternoon on Interstate 64.
Sheriff Pat Melton said Megan Robert, 24, of Norfolk, Va. told deputies she looked down for a moment as she was driving in the left lane of westbound I-64, near mile marker 53.
When she looked up, traffic had stopped.
Melton said she was driving around 70 miles per hour.
Robert told deputies she swerved, but she hit the car in front of her before ending up in the median.
The car she hit, driven by Nathan Mattox, 38, of Booneville, Mo., was pushed into a third car, driven by Erin Moore, 34, of Winston-Salem, N.C.
Mattox’s passenger, 38-year-old Aneisa Mattox, was taken to the hospital with what deputies described as very minor injuries.
Melton said she was complaining of neck and back pain.
Traffic had been slow in the area for most of Friday because of construction.
Emergency patching was being done at the bridge over Cardwell Lane, a spokeswoman for Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 5 said.
Melton said this construction work was likely why traffic was backed up at the time of the crash.
