A young girl was flown to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center with what police call very serious injuries after a car struck her Monday evening.
Frankfort Police Capt. Robert Warfel said a woman driving on Wilkinson Boulevard hit the 11-year-old near Walter Todd Drive.
The girl was taken to Frankfort Regional Medical Center, Warfel said, then later flown to UK.
The extent of her injuries is unknown, but Warfel described them as “very serious.”
Warfel couldn’t comment on what might have led to the accident, but said it is under investigation.
This incident is the second in the past week in which a young child was hit by a vehicle on Wilkinson Boulevard.
A young boy was hit by a truck May 12. The boy was conscious and talking to medical personnel at the scene. Witnesses said the man driving the truck that hit the boy was traveling at a safe speed.
The street was blocked to traffic Monday evening as accident reconstruction teams examined the scene. The road was clear by about 7 p.m.
Construction to replace the aging concrete on Wilkinson Boulevard, including the area near Walter Todd Drive, is ongoing. Two lanes of Wilkinson Boulevard are closed.
