EMA to test storm-warning sirens Monday at noon

The Frankfort/Franklin County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will conduct a test of the outdoor warning system Monday at noon.

In the event that severe weather occurs or threatens the area, the tests will be postponed. The tests are regularly scheduled for noon the first Monday of every month.

Urban Forestry Board to meet

The Frankfort Urban Forestry Board will meet Wednesday at noon at the parks and recreation office at Juniper Hill.

Humane Society to host Volunteer Palooza Saturday

Learn more about volunteering for the Franklin County Humane Society at the Volunteer Palooza Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at the shelter, located at 1041 Kentucky Ave.

Bring the family and dog and enjoy games and prizes, free food and drink, and live entertainment provided by Elvis impersonator Glenn Bowles.

The event features an owner-pet lookalike contest and a free emailed photo of you and your dog.

Current volunteers will be available to answer questions about what volunteers do.

Bridgeport announces kindergarten registration

Registration for incoming kindergarten students who will be attending Bridgeport Elementary School will be July 16 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m.

Juniper Hill to host pool hour for disabled community members

Juniper Hill Pool will offer pool opportunities for disabled community members every Tuesday and Thursday during the month of July from 10-11 a.m.

South Frankfort Neighborhood Association announces quarterly meeting

The South Frankfort Neighborhood Association has scheduled its next quarterly meeting for Thursday, July 24, at the South Frankfort Presbyterian Church on the corner of Steele and West Third streets.

Use the entrance along West Third to get to the church’s Fellowship Hall. The doors will open at 6 p.m. for social hour and dinner with donations accepted for the Randy Bacon Memorial Scholarship.

At 7 p.m., the meeting will begin and members will review the results of the SFNA survey, hear a presentation from a former scholarship winner and his fundraising efforts to intern in New Zealand, review and adopt proposed changes to the SFNA bylaws, and elect new officers to the SFNA Executive Committee.

Registration dates set for Franklin Co. High School

Franklin County High School registration for incoming freshmen and returning students will be July 28 and 29 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the cafeteria at the school.

New student registration will take place July 30-Aug. 1 in the guidance office between the hours of 9 a.m.-2 p.m. each day.

Freshman orientation will be at the school July 29 from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Legal Aid of the Bluegrass SHIP seeks volunteers

Legal Aid of the Bluegrass’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), a non-profit organization, is seeking volunteers. The program has been giving a helping hand to people with Medicare in navigating the healthcare maze for more than 20 years.

The focus of the SHIP program is to educate and assist Medicare beneficiaries and the elderly in making informed decisions regarding benefits based on their circumstances and needs. In the past two years the SHIP program has helped Medicare beneficiaries apply for more than $7 million in money-saving benefits and more than $25,000 monthly in Medicare premium expenses. The SHIP program has also saved Medicare beneficiaries nearly $2 million in annual drug costs and over $170,000 in monthly grocery costs, according to a news release.
