Neighbors tire of the smell

The city of Frankfort is investigating the cost of demolishing three condemned structures on a lot on West Third Street.

The vacant house at 311 West Third has a carriage house behind it, along with a small log cabin, age unknown, city officials say.

The owner, Annette Shuntich, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., will be held responsible for the costs of demolition, said Gary Muller, director of Frankfort's Department of Planning and Building Codes.

The building's condemnation was renewed in January of this year.

The lowest current demolition bid is $21,800, Muller said. The 2008 Property Valuation Administrator's assessment is $115,000.

If the demolition fee is not paid within 30 days, Muller said, the city would place a lien on the property.
Shuntich, originally from London, England, said she suspected the property has historical merit and she's trying to save the buildings. Shuntich said she believed the cabin was a servant, slave or "horse boy" house.

Shuntich, a real estate agent, said she's had personal setbacks in restoration. She said she worked on the property in the past.

"It's just hard when you are not there," Shuntich told The State Journal in a telephone interview today.
"When I was there, we'd have Christmas parties, all the poor as well as the wealthy, and we'd have cider and Bible studies." Shuntich said she's open to any potential buyers.

Muller said he is unsure of the cabin's age, but said all three structures on the property are "very old."
Littered on the porch of the main house are water-damaged college textbooks, a tattered copy of a Sue Grafton mystery N is for Nose and debris.

Inside the house, broken pieces of drywall obstruct entry for all but the most enterprising building inspectors.

Doors and windows to the carriage house are open, revealing sagging floorboards and children's toys strewn about. "This is our family" is written on a wall above photos.

The smell of urine emanates from the structure, which neighbors say vagrants inhabited on and off.
Muller confirmed transients had used one room in the carriage house as a toilet. Muller also said someone lived in the cabin through the winter with no water or electricity.

Though the log cabin isn't much more than a few dozen square feet, a makeshift bed rests near a stone fireplace beneath advertisements for perfume and photos of fashion models cut from magazines and pasted to the wall.

Neighbors say the dilapidated buildings are odiferous, particularly when it's hot outside.

Muller said the building's state of disrepair has been prohibitive for potential restorers. "It was a beautiful home," Mueller said.

While not much is known about the historical significance of the cabin or the carriage house, Muller said the main structure's architectural merit is dubious.

"From my recollection, there wasn't architectural significance to the main structure," Muller said.
Muller said the Planning and Zoning Commission has gone so far as to bring prospective buyers to the owner, but the parties could not agree on a price.

"We truly went out of our way," Muller said.

"I need to be up there, really, to manage the construction," Shuntich said.

Shuntich said she loves her Frankfort neighbors, "but I know it's been a huge eyesore for them."

While city commissioners requested information about the possibility of demolishing the main residence and the carriage house and leaving the log cabin, Muller said they'd likely recommend all three structures be torn down.

"You can't save them all, unfortunately," Muller said.

"I don't like the guy but I don't run around advertising it, nor do I carry around such a deep hatred for him. I also don't feel the need to indirectly advertise my business other than with my username. "

You and the rest of your clones amaze me. First, what makes you think that anyone cares about your approval or what you think about someone's credibility, when you have none? You're just an anonymous name on a bulletin board, another cyber jerk who lives to put other people down on the net. Second, you and hophead and emu go from topic to topic, pronouncing judgement on other people's lives and homes and everything you see, and then get ****** when people bite back. You gang up on the ones who stand up to you or DARE to express an opinion different from your own. It's okay for the group of you to say anything you please - this home's in bad taste, that house is falling down, blah, blah, blah - and everyone's supposed to fall in line with the party line.
No one appointed any of you to pronounce judgement about other people's lives or tastes, and the ONLY reason that I get on here to post messages is so that someone stands up and argues back with you.
The way you and your clique act, everyone loves you, everyone adores you, your judgement is perfect and your opinions are the final word. Isn't it obvious how ridiculous that is, and as a consequence how ridiculous YOU are? You don't agree with another person's activities so they're bad, but what do you do or what have you done, except to **** on other people's lives?
You live in a great home? Great, post the address so that WE can come give you OUR opinion of it. You might not like what you hear. You don't like someone else's business? Great, name YOUR business so ALL of us can have a go at telling you how your business plan sucks.
You're nothing but the modern internet equivalent of a bunch of old women gabbing on a party line, dissecting everyone else's lives and passing judgement on the world while you do nothing, contribute nothing and do nothing to improve other people's lives.
You wallow in your viciousness, and are outraged when someone stands up to you. You live for venom and then say that I and others are the ones who practice it. You have no self-awareness at all.
If you were anything but a faceless name on a computer screen you might be worth listening to, but as it is, you're just a bunch of biddies gabbling hate at people you don't know. Read your own posts and try to imagine what you look like, if you dare.

Talk about houses in South Frankfort that are in disrepair, how about that old victorian on 100 block of East 4th St. that is divided up into 8 or so apartment units. That thing is about to fall over!! Boy am I glad I don't live next to that house!

That's too bad. It could have been a historical gem in South Frankfort.

Nativeson - in my eyes you have lost all credibility. You hijack every discussion for your own purpose be it the right to carry concealed guns or attacking Rick Paul. It wouldn't even surprise me if hothead or even sojourner would be one of your many usernames. Somebody to stir up some trouble so you can direct the discussion to your two favorite topics. Do your scare tactics actually work? Do you see an increase in students in your concealed gun classes? Do you see people pointing the finger at Rick Paul when they see him?

I don't like the guy but I don't run around advertising it, nor do I carry around such a deep hatred for him. I also don't feel the need to indirectly advertise my business other than with my username.

Chucky, I'm not Ricky. And last time I checked I did not have a sex change operation either. You are letting your paranoia get to your head.

An argument? You house does look like it's falling apart. Even that horrible coat of paint won't change a thing about it. You seem to be mighty proud of whatever architectural feature you added on, but if you really hired somebody professional you wasted your money. And no, not all your neighbors think highly of you.

nativeson - I live in one of the finest places in South Frankfort. I don't know why I'm taking time to tell you this. I've seen Rainbow Row in Charleston, S.C. Those are very colorful homes.

Poor Chucky, in a bad mood today? Why do you always insult people when you run out of arguments?"

Why don't you ever offer an argument instead of insulting someone, Ricky?
You don't contribute anything, you just hang out waiting to take a swipe at people you don't even know. How pathetic.

I have to ask if the color scheme was inspired by the Ronald McDonald house, was it a close out color, or does the owner just have really bad taste??"

It's truly sad that you've never been anywhere else in the world or seen anything beyond the borders of your trailer park, or else you would know that people paint houses in bright colors in all kinds of places. There's no law that says that the colors have to be as drab as you are.

I guess Chucky finally recognized his own house with that description, lol. Did it get lonely over at the White Light Diner thread talking to yourself? Sojourner and you really should take your fight elsewhere..."

As long as we're offering opinions, morons like you with nothing to contribute to a discussion should stay out of it. You're free not to read it at any time. It is a public forum, that's how you got in.
