Red All-Stars move onJuly 19, 2008
The Frankfort 11-year-old All-Stars overcame a 3-0 deficit and defeated Fern Creek 8-6 Saturday night in the East Kentucky Cal Ripken State Baseball Tournament at Paul Weddle Field. Frankfort will play Scott County today at 3 p.m. in the consolation bracket. Frankfort fell into the consolation bracket with an 8-2 loss to Harrison County Friday night. On Saturday Fern Creek took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run homer by Tyler Wilkins. Frankfort took the lead for good with five runs in the top of the second with singles by Ryan Schneider, Will Nash, Pete Gall, Quentin Brownlee, Samuel Mackey and Seth Roush, and fielder's choices by Dre Scott and Rylan Rowe. Fern Creek closed the gap to 5-4 with a run in the fourth inning on a single by Christian Millay and a ground-rule double by Colton Hutzelman. In the fifth inning Frankfort put up three runs for an 8-4 advantage as Rowe, Jeffrey Quire and Roush all singled, Dawson Willis was hit by a pitch, and Samuel Mackey hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Fern Creek picked up two runs in the bottom of the fifth with three walks, a single by Andrew Goeing and an error, and the team threatened in the sixth inning when a walk and an error put two runners on with no outs. Brownlee struck out the side to seal the win for Frankfort. Roush, Frankfort's starting pitcher, pitched into the fifth inning before being relieved by Brownlee. Roush led Frankfort with three singles, and Brownlee, Schneider and Mackey all had two singles. Nash, Gall, Rowe, Quire and Tyler Carr each had a base hit. For Fern Creek, Wilkins hit a home run, Hutzelman hit a double, and Millay and Goeing both singled.
In other games Saturday, Danville-Boyle County defeated Middletown 14-4, Fern Creek beat Johnson County 13-8, and Scott County defeated Danville-Boyle County 8-3. Harrison County will play South Lexington, an 11-0 winner over Scott County Friday, in the winners' bracket final at 1 p.m. today, followed by Frankfort vs. Scott County. The winner of the Frankfort-Scott County game will play the loser of the Harrison County-South Lexington game at 5 p.m. in the consolation final. The championship is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday. >Frankfort was held to two hits " singles by Mackey and Roush " in Friday's loss to Harrison County.
Harrison's hits were singles by Brandon Case, Alex Kinsey, Brandon Adams, Corey Jackson and Devon Barton. Robbie Stroub and Austin Reffett pitched. Comments
