A motorcyclist is in critical condition after being injured in a collision Saturday afternoon on U.S. 127 in West Frankfort, a hospital spokesperson says.
Belinda Moore, 45, and Robert Moore, 48, both of Frankfort, were riding a Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle north-bound on U.S. 127 at Limestone. They collided with a white 2002 Toyota Highlander SUV at approximately 6 p.m., according to police.
Robert Moore was listed as being in fair condition Monday morning and Belinda Moore was in critical condition, according to the spokesperson at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.
The SUV was heading south on 127 and driven by Amy Lee, 26, of Frankfort, with three children as passengers police said. No one in the SUV was injured.
The Moores were transported to Frankfort Regional Medical Center before being airlifted to UK.

It's impossible that the sun got in her eyes, she was traveling southbound. I travel 127 in frankfort everyday and at all hours of the day and the sun has never been a problem. Since it was around 6 when the accident happened, the sun wouldn't have been low enough anyways to get in her eyes if she was traveling west. One more thing to prove her wrong, the part of road that she was looking at is downhill. Hard to have the sun in your eyes if you're looking down and the sun is up. She was probably not paying attention or was distracted by her kids. Of course she won't say this if it's true. Also, being that the bike was traveling under the speed limit, according to the cops, Ms. Lee had plenty of time to see the bike if she was paying attention. Plus, who would turn left across two lanes of traffic if the sun was in your eyes, that's just stupid.

I too was at the accident. This was that a terrible accident and obviously will affect many families. All I could do at the scene was pray. If you read any of this stop and pray for all involved. I tried to keep the driver's children occupied.
We need to continue to pray for the Moores and for the driver ...... Lives can be changed in a split moment. This will be tough for all of them and their families.

Cookie2!!! Thank you so much for speaking up! I was one of the witness and I am having a hard time getting thru all of this. I can't begin to imagine how the Moore family feels or what they are going thru. My thoughts and prayers are with the Moore and Lee family. I pray that Mr and Mrs Moore have a speedy recovery.

Soccermom is right. The SUV had a green light but did not have the right of way to turn left - and according to witness reports, the bike was traveling at excessive speed and the riders were not wearing helmets. Kind of like bringing a knife to a gun fight. Hope all are well and that a strong message is received by all drivers, but especially motorcyclists. When you're the little guy, it's bad judgment not to defend yourself the best you can. Accidents happen. Why take stupid risks knowing that?

FOLKS! I am related to the Moore's and as a family we have been given certain information from the police.
1. The comment about the motorcycle speeding, not true it's been determined by the police that the bike was going approximately 35 mph.
2. The SUV had a GREEN light as is normal at that intersection. However, she did not have a green arrow, which means she should have yeilded. Speaking only for myself, I can honestly say that there have been times, I've "pushed the issue" about getting across the street before the oncoming traffic.
3. Ms. Lee stated that the sun was in her eyes and she didn't see the motorcycle. This too is very possible given the time of day and the direction she was traveling.
This was a terrible accident. The families and friends of all parties involved are devastated and trying to help those involved heal. The finger pointing, blame laying and incredibly insensitive remarks posted here are totally unnecessary and very hurtful. Did any of you give thought to the three children who were in the SUV? Speaking as one involved in a severe accident as a youth, I can tell you that will never leave those kids. Ms. Lee will never get behind the wheel of a vehicle again without thinking about what happened, Robert and Belinda have such a long road ahead of them that it is impossible to see the end right now.
If you have to post something here, make it a sincere, heartfelt prayer for all those involved. Most of the stuff posted here today was totally not necessary.

Voice 33! I don't know who you are, but I was a witness to the wreck. I was stopped for the RED light to turn left on 127S from Limestone. The SUV was turning left onto Limestone towards McDonalds and she DID have the GREEN light. Don't tell me to get my facts right! I am right! YOU are very WRONG!

Are you kidding me! "Puh-leeze"Motorcyclist should be the ones who need to be looking out for the other guy. What the f"k? Anyone with a drivers license is responsible for looking out for the other guy!!! Or didn't your handbook have that chapter in it? You are right about one thing though, people do turn when the light is green. As a matter of fact that is the rule "Go on green" on the other hand it is NOT Allowed for people to go on RED! You did learn that one didn't you RED means STOP!!! Which is what the driver of the SUV did NOT do! "Thin the herd" are you a complete moron? Survival of the fittest, if that is the way you feel then I can't help but wonder what is keeping your stupid ass here on this earth. Your comment was completely uncalled for. The bottom line here is that the driver of the suv FAILED to stop at a red light and by doing that put two people in the hospital. She made a choice to go on through that RED light and by making that one choice in her life she has completely altered the lives of the motorcyclist and their families forever. They had just as much of a right to be on the road as any other driver or rider. And as for the soccer mom who said that "she had a green light" Lady you need to get your facts straightShe DID NOT have a green light and miss that is the FACT!!! This was a horrible incident and my prayers go out to all involved. I just feel that people with small brains should not be allowed to voice their opinions. How does that sit with you Puh-leeze

I was there when the wreck happened! The SUV had a green light!! She did try to stop!!!! I was stopped for the RED light. Stop pointing fingers cause that will NOT change anything!!!!! Everyone involved has been affected in one way or the other. My heart goes out to the ones on the M/C and the SUV driver. Everyone needs to be saying prayers and offering help where needed to the families involved!!!! Unless you where there and saw the wreck with your own eyes, leave it alone!

I feel for all involved, but the hard, cold fact is that accidents do happen. People do turn when the light is green believing they have the time to beat oncoming traffic. It's a matter of perspective and judgment by fallible humans. Still, if any motorist on the road should be driving defensively (watching out for the OTHER guy) it's a motorcyclist. Choosing not to wear a helmet is, in my opinion, the worst judgment in this regrettable accident. I hope all, including the SUV driver recover. But, every time I see a motorcyclist without a helmet, I can't help but think, "thin the herd." I strongly support the law that allows motocyclists to choose for themselves whether or not to wear a helmet. I think too many of our laws interfere with the law of natural selection (survival of the fittest), perpetuating the worst weaknesses and preventing the evolutionary progress of the species.
