The Franklin CountyLady Flyersgolf team won a tri-match with Western Hills and Henry Clay Tuesday at Juniper Hill Golf Course. The Lady Flyers had a team score of 157, with Henry Clay at 173, followed by Western Hillswith a197.
Western Hills was led by Megan Kinney with a 43, followed by Paige Coleman 49, Ashley Edwards 51, and Chelsey Stephens 54.Other scores for Western Hillswere Peyton Silva 58 and Shelby Wooldridge 60. Franklin County plays Boyle County at Old Bridge Golf Course Thursday, and WHHS plays Woiodford County and East Jessamine Thursday at Woodford Hills Country Club. FRANKFORT HIGH Panthers fall in All A Regional The Frankfort High boys soccer team opened its season with a 5-1 loss to Richmond Model in the first round of the All A Regional tournament Monday night. The match saw the Panthers gain a major advantage on shots with 19 to Model's seven. Only one of the Panthers' shots found the back of the goal, however, a low shot from 10 yards by senior Andrew Grider with less than two minutes remaining in the match. Following the match, Frankfort coach Sherrill Smith commented that his team, "played with heart from start to finish and never gave up." The win advanced Richmond Model to the next round of All A play against Berea Tuesday night.
FRANKLIN COUNTY Scrimmage, showcase will be Friday The FCHS football team will play a scrimmage at home against South Oldham Friday at 8 p.m.
"Meet the Flyers' Aug. 25 The Franklin County High School cheerleaders will be hosting a "Meet the Flyers" event on Monday, Aug. 25, in the FCHS gym from 6:30-8 p.m. This is an opportunity for parents, friends, and families to meet all of the fall sports teams and kick off their seasons. Admission is $3 and food will be available. ELKHORN MIDDLE Cross country practice has started The Elkhorn Middle School cross country team is currently practicing during the following times/dates/locations and is still accepting new runners at this time: Practice will be at Lakeview Park from 3:30-5 p.m. on the following dates: Wednesday, Aug. 20; Thursday, Aug. 21; Monday, Aug. 25; Tuesday, Aug. 26; Thursday, Aug. 28; and Friday, Aug. 29.
All incoming sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at Elkhorn Middle are allowed to run for the team.
Any student interested in running cross country for EMS this fall must have a sports physical to participate. SOCCER Elks Soccer Shoot will be Sept. 6 The Elks local Soccer Shoot is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, at Lakeview Park.Contestants can compete between 2-5 p.m., andboys and girls are welcome to compete. Age groups for each are 7 & under; 8-9 year olds; 10-11 year olds and 12-13 year olds.A copy of the participant's birth certificate is required at registration for proof of age. SENIOR GAMES Competitors needed for Sept. 6 event The Bluegrass Regional Boomer and Senior Games are looking for those 50 and over to participate from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, on the campus of Berea College. The event is sponsored by Berea College and the Bluegrass Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living. Games include badminton, basketball, cycling, golf, racquetball, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. On-site registration is from 8-9.
