Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton raised more than twice the amount of money raised in Franklin County by her then-rival U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, records show. Clinton won Franklin County in the presidential primary by a margin of 5,000 votes and raised almost $36,600 from local supporters between 2007 and 2008, according to records from the Federal Election Commission. Obama raised $14,500 but went on to clinch the nomination. An individual can contribute a maximum of $2,300 per election cycle to a federal candidate. Contributions less than $200 are required to be reported. The Democratic National Convention will be in Denver next week. Overall, Clinton reported $26 million on hand with $25 million in debt. Obama has reported having $71 million on hand and less than $900,000 in debt. Both State Auditor Crit Luallen and her husband, Lynn, gave $500 to the Clinton campaign and she also gave $500 to Obama. Developer Michael Davenport gave $2,300 to Clinton, as did attorney Bill May. Key Obama supporters included developer Jerry Lunsford, who gave $2,300, and attorneys Mark Bubenzer and Bryan Hix who gave $850 and $681 respectively. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, residents of Franklin County's 40601 zip code contributed more than eight times the average zip code. So far, local supporters have given $287,000 to candidates for federal office this year, exceeding the average of $37,500. That includes Sen. Mitch McConnell, a Republican, Bruce Lunsford, his Democratic opponent, and U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler, D-6th District, among others. That's down from $450,000 in 2002 and 2004, and only half the average of $510,000 in 1998 and 2000. Here is a list of the local contributors who supported Democratic presidential candidates: Obama, $14,515, 34 contributors
Clinton, $36,574, 42 contributors
