Second escapee foundAugust 29, 2008
The second inmate who walked away from the Frankfort Career Development Center has been apprehended. John Alstatt, 53, was arrested outside of the Central City Wal-Mart in Muhlenberg County on Thursday without incident, according to the Associated Press. Alstatt, and Robert Fritz, 28, escaped from the minimum-security prison on Monday night. According to police, they stole a truck from a Frankfort business. Fritz was arrested Tuesday in Evansville, Ind., after police spotted him in the stolen truck. Fritz was serving a 10-year sentence from Jefferson County for identity theft, fraudulent use of credit cards, criminal possession of a forged instrument, receiving stolen property and being a persistent felony offender, according to the Department of Corrections. He was to be eligible for parole in May 2009. Alstatt was serving a 7-year sentence for a Henderson County theft and being a persistent felony offender, according to the Department of Corrections. He would have served out his sentence in less than two months. Both inmates will face charges in connection with the Frankfort theft and escape charges when they are returned to Kentucky, said Lisa Lamb, spokesperson for the Department of Corrections. Comments
