Kentucky State's football team steps out of conference play Saturday when it travels to Rensselaer, Ind., for a game against St. Joseph's. Kickoff is 1 p.m., and the game is being broadcast on 1580 AM. Both KSU and St. Joseph's are coming off season-opening losses. The Thorobreds led 10-0 after the first quarter and 10-9 at halftime before falling to Lane College 32-16 in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game. St. Joseph's was dominated by Hillsdale last week, trailing 35-6 at halftime and losing 49-6. The Pumas were held to 131 yards in total offense " 35 yard rushing " while giving up 508 yards to Hillsdale. St. Joseph's only score came in the first quarter on a 71-yard pass from Mike Hladik to Jashon Banks. KSU sophomore defensive back Derrick Addia was named SIAC co-defensive player of the week. Addia recorded 12 tackles " six solo " and broke up three passes in last week's game against Lane. The Thorobreds had 140 yards total offense last week. Sophomore running back Andrew Ramsey had one touchdown run and led the ground attack with 34 yards. Senior quarterback Kevin Warner was 9-for-24 for 111 yards with no interceptions and one sack. After Saturday's game, the Thorobreds return home for two straight SIAC games " against Albany State Sept. 13 and Clark-Atlanta Sept. 20. Comments
