One good look at the goal was all Frankfort High gave Owen County Monday night. But that one look cost them the game.

In a Capital City Classic rematch of the first game of the season on Sower Soccer Field 1, Owen County turned the tables on the Lady Panthers, finding the back of the net five minutes into the second half when Melina Bress' shot bounced off the left post and weakly rolled beneath on the crossbar after an attempted save by a FHS defender. The Lady Rebels won the game 1-0.

In their contest at the beginning of the season, the Lady Panthers had defeated Owen County 2-0, a game that they forfeited after one of their players was declared ineligible. This time around, eligibility had nothing to do with the final result.

"The difference tonight is they had a goal that they scored," FHS assistant coach Taylor Marshall said. "We played good defense the whole game " we had a strong defensive showing " but they got by us one time. That was really the only goal I thought they had a realistic shot at scoring."

In a defensive struggle, Frankfort High outshot Owen County 4-3. The Lady Panthers' best goal opportunities came in the first half on a dribble drive by Marla Rhodes and a shot that crossed the front of the goal by Amber Persons. FHS pressured the Owen County defense off three free kick opportunities in the second half, but couldn't break through for the score.

"Our offense played well," Marshall said. "I feel like we had a lot of opportunities and just never finished."

Marshall said overall, the Lady Panthers have made strides since the last time the two teams met.

"I think as a whole we're improving. I think we've made up a lot of ground since the beginning of the year."

Frankfort plays Western Hills Wednesday at Sower 1.

Panthers 3, Spencer Co. 3
Andrew to Andrew saved the day for Frankfort High on Sower Soccer Field 2.

Trailing by a goal in the final minute, a dramatic header by Andrew Grider off a corner kick by Andrew LeMay tied the game 3-3 against Spencer County with 18 seconds in regulation.

Both Grider and LeMay scored a goal earlier in the match for the Panthers " LeMay's coming off an assist from Jacob Clark with seven minutes left in the second half.

FHS coach Sherill Smith said he'd take the tie, but thought the Panthers didn't play to their full potential.

"If our team would have played 80 minutes of soccer and not saved it for the last 10 minutes I think we would have had a much better finish than what we did," Smith said. "I'll never complain about a tie when you're coming from behind, but I feel like it was a game we should have won."

The Panthers host Harrison County tonight at 6.
