A 10-year-old Frankfort boy, a passenger in a vehicle collision Friday, was in critical condition Saturday night at University of Kentucky Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said.
Tyler Hopper, 200 block of Douglas Avenue, suffered head injuries in the 7:20 p.m. one-vehicle wreck on Switzer Road in Franklin County about a mile from the Switzer covered bridge, according to Franklin County Sheriff Steve Clark.
Hopper was flown by emergency helicopter from the accident scene to the medical center in Lexington.
The driver of the Jeep Liberty vehicle Marjorie Watts, 42, of 208 Douglas Ave., was cited for four counts of passengers not wearing seat belts, Clark said.
She was westbound when a bee flew in her window and distracted her, causing her to lose control, Clark said. The vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree, he said. The vehicle was extensively damaged.
The driver and six other passengers escaped injury, Clark said.
The other passengers were Chris Pullen, 35, Elle Watts, 5, Jennifer Watts, 21, Jesse Barnes, 13, and Bridget Carrier, 21, all of Douglas Avenue, and Mark Watts, 46, of St. Clair Street.
Franklin County firefighters and EMS responded, along with the sheriff's department.
