A Franklin County real estate developer has been arrested on drug trafficking charges after he was allegedly caught buying cocaine in Lexington for $19,000, according to police.

Ricky Layne Wentworth, 42, 2590 Bald Knob Road, is charged with conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance, according to Lexington metro police reports.

Police reports said Wentworth attempted to buy a kilo of cocaine from a police informant.

Wentworth made multiple calls to the informant, police reports said, before driving in a blue GMC pickup to a Holiday Inn at 1780 Sharkey Way, where he was arrested about 1:15 a.m. Oct. 16.

Police reports said Wentworth, who had "a large sum of currency" in his possession at the time of his arrest, agreed to pay the informant $19,000 for the drugs.

Wentworth, who goes by the nickname "Hollywood," according to police, appeared in Fayette District Court today for a preliminary hearing.

Detective Matt Evans testified that Lexington police arrested a man named Christian Garcia who agreed to become an informant for police.

Evans testified Garcia told police Wentworth had purchased cocaine from him only the day before.

According to Evans' testimony, Wentworth could be heard conferring with an unknown partner in Frankfort as he spoke with Garcia on the phone and police recorded the conversation.

Evans said in court Wentworth had checks written by "different people" in his possession at the time of his arrest.

Wentworth is currently being held in the Fayette County Jail. His bond is set at $50,000 full cash.

Wentworth has been involved in the development of the Capital Condos in west Frankfort, under the auspices of Capital Condos, LLC.

The State Journal reported on a code violation for dead trees at the Hudson Hollow Road condos, which Wentworth co-owns with Gravesco, Inc., in September.

Messages left for Detective Matt Evans and Sgt. Jack Dawson, who handled Wentworth's case, were not immediately returned.
