Kentucky State University police are looking for suspects in a Feb. 12 burglary at its Franklin County research farm during which property was vandalized and a pet goose shot.

KSU's Assistant Chief of Police Tiua Chilton told The State Journal Wednesday the hunt for perpetrators of the burglary continues though suspects have not been identified.

Chilton said thieves stole $8,000 in computer equipment and other items from the farm's Mills Lane offices. Most of the items were electronic, Chilton said, including a GPS system, a DVD writer, cameras and batteries. A coat and a jar of pennies were also stolen.

Meanwhile, the perpetrators kicked in a door, shattered a window and broke a mirror before trashing a golf cart and driving it through a fence, Chilton said.

The pet goose, Herman, was shot outside but survived, Chilton said. Herman was taken to a vet and has returned to the farm.

"We suspect the reason they shot the goose was that the goose was making noise," Chilton said. "Geese are loud."

Chilton said officer Lane Crawley of the university police department has been working with state police to develop a suspect.

Other incidents have been reported in the area, Chilton said, that may be related. KSU operates two research farms, one on Mills Lane near the Anderson County line and another in Henry County.

Police are searching for information on the burglary or a suspect. Anyone with information may contact KSU police at 597-6878. Tips may be left anonymously.

They shot Goose? Maverick is NOT going to be happy.

Seriously, though, I hope they get this guy. Since this was a state facility, they stole from everyone that pays taxes.

I suspect the drinkers could knock them out with empty bottles and the smokers could burn them.

The goose was lucky that they only winged him.

Hopefully drich you are a friend not foe of Herman's since that information wasn't in the article.
