Fallen officers honored
Kentucky State Police Post 12 Frankfort will remember three fallen comrades during the National Police Memorial week May 11-17.
At 11:30 a.m. today troopers placed a wreath at the Frankfort Post 12 flagpole in honor of Trooper James W. McNeely.
On Tuesday, troopers placed a wreath at the gravesites of Trooper Harold J. Toll and Trooper Bobby A. McCoun in Anderson County.
McNeely, age 37, drowned while on a flood rescue mission in Franklin County on April 8, 1972. His death came one day after his 16th anniversary of joining the Kentucky State Police.
McNeely and another law enforcement officer died when the boat in which they were riding was swept over the dam at Lock 4 in Frankfort. McNeely's body was never found. The two canoeists for whom the officers were searching were later found safe.
There have been 25 Kentucky State Police troopers who have died in the line of duty since the agency's beginning in 1948.
Kiwanis club plans pancake breakfast
The Frankfort Kiwanis Club will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Saturday from 7 a.m.-noon at First Christian Church, 316 Ann St. Homemade sausage gravy and biscuits, pancakes, sausage, orange juice, milk and coffee are on the menu.
The cost is $5 per person with all proceeds to be used for activities and needs of Franklin County children and youth.
As an added feature, in recognition of the All Veterans Reunion and the official opening that day of Veterans Hall in the Capital City Museum, $1 from each ticket purchased by a veteran signing in at the breakfast will be donated to the Veterans Center in Wilmore.
KSP hosting motorcycle training
Kentucky State Police will host its second annual "Motorcycle Safety Awareness Day" May 21.
The event includes vendor displays, a news conference, safety seminar and "Cruise for Awareness" ride.
The ride will be escorted by KSP and Lexington police with more than 200 motorcycles traveling through Frankfort and around the Capitol building.

All event activities take place at KSP headquarters and begin at noon. The free safety seminar is limited to the first 100 participants at KSP headquarters from 6-9 p.m.
There will also be demonstrations and a cookout.
