Buffalo Trace Distillery has purchased Old Taylor Bourbon, named after E.H. Taylor Jr., the great-nephew of President Zachary Taylor.

E.H. Taylor served as mayor of Frankfort from 1871-1887, and was a state representative and senator.

In 1870, Taylor purchased Buffalo Trace Distillery (then called Old Fire Copper Distillery) and is credited for modernizing operations and making it a leader in the industry.

“We are ecstatic about this transaction,” said Mark Brown, president and CEO of Buffalo Trace. “Part of our family is returning and we are thrilled to welcome home a true bourbon whiskey pioneer.”

Buffalo Trace Distillery is a family-owned company based in Franklin County and a fully operational distillery producing bourbon, rye and vodka on site. The distillery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places

Old Taylor Bourbon was purchased from Beam Global Spirits and Wine Inc., maker of Jim Beam Bourbon.

Back in the days of my youth (seems like yesterday) I hauled corn into Old Crow from Indiana grain Queen City Elevator. Buffalo Trace also ran some ethanol back int he day, but that didn't work out for them. Now they use that particular still to run vodka.

Half of that property was Old Crow and Half was Old Taylor. The upper end was Taylor, the one with the castle. At one time Crow was outfitted to run ethanol, back in the 70's during the oil embargo.

At one time there were plans to bottle the limestone spring water at Old Taylor and market it locally, I wonder what happened to that.

They do seem to reclaiming (or recycling, or destroying, depending on how you look at it) certain buildings on the Taylor property, but others seem to be getting attention. There's a pile of incoming hardware (power poles?) on the River end of the Taylor property. Some of the (remaining) buildings look really neat. I hope BT can preserve them.

Must be just the label, I think the old distillery is already gone. Last I heard and saw someone was demolishing the warehouses for the brick and lumber.
