Housing market still 'very slow'

The Frankfort-Franklin County real estate market continues “very slow,” according to the latest report by HMC Associates, Inc.

In July, 51 homes sold in the local market, compared to 53 for the same month last year. Since January, 331 homes have sold. Before the housing bust, typical sales for July were in the 70s and 80s.

However, the median price of homes remains consistent. For July, it was $122,900.

All I know is, prices are way too high around here. I've been looking for a year now.

And smartgirl1 is right. Especially those who bought when a neighborhood was just being established: nice homes later being surrounded by rental properties or high-density housing. Riverbend subdivision a prime example.

It is the real estate people that set the price and it is their suggestion on how much to list the property for.

It may be some agents are trying to make up for lost revenue . . .but then it may be homeowners do not realize (accept) the condition of the present market.

Both should get together and be REAL. Homes over 200 K are sitting all around Frankfort. Many of those were built during the optimum time when the money was flowing freely, virtually.

It depends, cents.
If you go out of the cookie-cutter, 1/4 acre lot subdivisions and get out of town (or live in downtown) there are some homes worth the price.

Having just bought a house after months of searching, I can't believe what people are asking for some of the houses... Of course, if they're selling, then the prices aren't too high for someone...

Frankfort housing will always remain stable due to state government & being the capital of Kentucky - plus it sits in the middle of Louisville & Lexington.

It would help if sellers would lower the outrageously high prices on these houses. Living in Frankfort isn't worth that much...
