Services for Barbara Ann Brewer, 59, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on 3421 Harrodsburg Road.
She passed away on October 30, 2009 at The Hospice Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital after a long illness. At her side were her husband and daughter.
Barbara was a member of Broadway Christian Church in Lexington. She was a graduate of Franklin County High School and Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in elementary education. She was a teacher in the Franklin County School System for 27 years before retiring in 2000. Almost all of her time teaching was spent at Collins Lane Elementary School. After retiring she continued to substitute teach until she became too ill to continue. Barbara and her family have lived in the Nonesuch area of Woodford County for the past nine years. She was a member of the Nonesuch Homemakers Club and former owner of the Nonesuch General Store.
Survivors include her husband, Jeff Brewer; daughter, Tamie Parsons-Irby; son-in-law, James Irby and her mother, Mary Ragland Stephens. Also surviving is a stepdaughter, Shane Davis (Jeff), and Shane’s children Houston Strader and Alyssa Mahle.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Roy Stephens.
Pallbearers will be cousins, Jerry Stephens, Larry Ragland, and Barry Ragland; step grandson, Houston Strader; nephew, Rodney Britton Brewer and family friend, Don Coffman.
Honorary pallbearers will be all the employees of the Hospice Care Center for treating Barbara with dignity and compassion in her last days.
Visitation will be from 5–9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Please instead of sending flowers, make a generous donation in Barbara’s memory to the Hospice of the Bluegrass at 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, KY 40504.
