Hellmann, Sandlin 2nd at Meet of Champions

Franklin County’s Robert Sandlin and Jenny Hellmann both finished second in the Class AA varsity races at the KTCCCA Meet of Champions Saturday at Masterson Station Park in Lexington.

Both races covered 5,000 meters.

Sandlin was second with a time of 16 minutes, 33.42 seconds as the Flyers placed fifth in the team standings. Bell County’s James Brown won the race in 16:26.57.

Western Hills was eighth in the boys Class AA race, led by Brandon Pulliam’s fifth-place finish in 17:19.93.

Hellmann’s time was 20:50.89 in the girls race, with Boyle County’s Emma Ditto winning in 19:38.07.

The Lady Flyers had the best finish among the local teams placing third with 93 points, just two points behind runner-up Boyle County.

FCHS had three other runners among the top 25 in the girls varsity race – Brooke Stigers, 11th in 22:30.27; Kristen Just, 15th in 23:00.73; and Shelby Wacker, 21st in 23:32.89. Rounding out the team were Marci Beason, 70th in 27:00.12, and Katelyn Chalk, 78th in 28:32.93.

The Flyers’ Jordan Parris finished in the top 20, placing 18th in 18:21.22. Also running for FCHS were Jason Shaw, 34th in 19:04.10; Parker Smith, 57th in 19:51.26; Anthony Adkins, 58th in 19:51.52; Brian Wyatt, 87th in 21:04.94; Roy Kitchen, 91st in 21:09.67; Matthew Wyatt, 103rd in 21:37.07; C.J. Decker, 105th in 21:40.25; and Blaine Lewis, 106th in 21:40.62.

WHHS runners behind Pulliam were Grant Hughes, 31st in 18:59.29; Zack Wasson, 70th in 20:31.11; Tyler Nix, 84th in 21:00.99; Zach Gaines, 118th in 22:11.266; Chris Nguyen, 135th in 23:33.39.

Western Hills had two girls in the varsity race – Katie Jackson was 64th in 26:18.82, and Kendyl Whaley was 86th in 31:29.15.

In the 5K junior varsity race, Franklin County had three male runners – Tighe Harrod was 16th in 23:00.74, Julian Viso was 17th in 23:05.08, and Nick Johnson was 18th in 23:10.59.

>Saturday’s meet was the state championship for the elementary and middle school teams.

Elkhorn was 22nd in the boys 6th grade and under division. The race covered 3,000 meters.

Running for the Elks were Curtis Green, 63rd in 12:50.97; Jack Lewis, 101st in 13:17.67; Zachary Green, 157th in 13:52.88; Kayden Hansel, 185th in 14:03.96; Jake Anderson, 232nd in 14:31.49; Daniel Rush, 322nd in 15:31.99; and Will Bolton, 324th in 15:36.70.

In the girls 6th grade and under division, Bondurant’s Ashley Kate Lawhorn was 21st in 13:22.59.

Elkhorn placed 47th in the team standings for this race. The Lady Elks competing were Jamie Beason, 181st in 15:21.04; Pauline Saligumba, 344th in 17:37.61; Rachel Lott, 387th in 19:03.87; Taylor Vifquin, 400th in 20:13.87; Micheala Just, 402nd in 20:32.72; Alyssa Gurnell, 412th in 21:14.05; and Taylor Withrow, 414th in 21:17.32.

Elkhorn was 28th in the boys middle school state championship. Joseph Cheek led the Elks, placing 103rd in 16:25.20 over the 4,000-meter course. Also running for EMS were Charles Stone, 142nd in 16:47.50; Taylor Strickland, 256th in 17:53.18; Robert Wunderlich, 274th in 18:06.96; Matthew Johnson, 285th in 18:20.43; Austin Fields, 336th in 19:09.78; and Matthew Smith, 352nd in 19:42.39.

Bondurant had two runners in the girls middle school race – Harper Jones was 98th in 18:18.40, and Dove DeNigris was 129th in 18:46.58.

Elkhorn had a team in the race that placed 37th. Running for EMS were Rebecca Coleman, 206th in 20:01.82; Kater Riddle, 252nd in 21:01.02; Aijalon Lott, 343rd in 24:15.46; Catherine Clements, 350th in 25:00.75; Molly Rush, 359th in 27:45.39; Margaret Whitworth, 362nd in 32:52.25; and Shelby Riddle, 363rd in 34:51.45.

In the 6th grade and under boys open division, Elkhorn’s Jordan Houghton was 142nd in 18:22.22 over 3,000 meters.

Elkhorn’s Thomas Parsons was 108th in 20:54.15 and Aaron Houghton was 121st in 23:09.96 in the middle school open division 4,000-meter race.
