A Frankfort man has been indicted on charges of fracturing the skull of a 19-year-old during a fight. Police say Andrew Cowan, 25, 302 Sequoyah Trail, hit Steven Walker, 19, while they were responding to a fight between a woman and her boyfriend May 16. Cowan and Walker were there to break up the fight, but they began fighting for an unknown reason, Commonwealth’s Attorney Larry Cleveland said. Walker fell, striking his head on a driveway and fracturing his skull, Cleveland said. Paramedics flew Walker from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Cleveland said. Walker was later released, but Cleveland wasn’t sure of his present condition, saying Walker had no medical insurance. “He has more medical expenses than anyone can pay out of pocket, I expect,” Cleveland said. Cowan faces charges of second-degree assault and being a persistent felony offender. He was convicted of second-degree burglary in Pulaski Circuit Court Feb. 20, 2004, and of second-degree escape in Bell Circuit Court Dec. 16, 2004. Other indictments by the grand jury Tuesday include: >Craig A. Vaughn, 28, 608 Taylor Ave., on charges of selling hydrocodone and manufacturing steroids with stolen lab equipment. Police found Vaughn while responding to a call of gunshots at his residence July 18, according to reports. Cleveland said Vaughn had $1,800 cash and 34 hydrocodone pills in his possession. Police searched the residence and found a “great deal” of steroids and the means for making them, including lab equipment stolen from the state police central forensic laboratory, Cleveland said. Vaughn worked there as a janitor, Cleveland said. Vaughn faces charges of trafficking in controlled substances (hydrocodone and steroids), trafficking in controlled substances within 1,000 yards of a school, receiving stolen property, alcohol intoxication and use/possession of drug paraphernalia. Vaughn’s home is near Second Street Elementary School. >Robert L. Stewart, 901 Leawood Drive #2, 25, on charges of selling cocaine. Cleveland said Stewart sold it during three undercover buys to a confidential police witness Oct. 16-29. Stewart was arrested after the third buy Oct. 29 in the Brighton Park Kroger parking lot, police reports say. He sold more than $160 worth of cocaine during the buys, Cleveland said. Stewart confessed to selling cocaine when police arrested him. He faces charges of trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine). >Ashley Boler, 22, unknown address, on charges of stealing and using a debit card and being a persistent felony offender. Cleveland said Boler, who worked at the Parkside Dairy Queen, stole the debit card of her co-worker, Megan Henry, 17, Oct. 31. Boler used Henry’s debit card to purchase $96 worth of clothing at Walmart and $23 in alcohol at Moore’s Point on Versailles Road, Cleveland said. Boler faces charges of misuse of electronic information and being a persistent felony offender. She was convicted of fraudulent use of a credit card in Franklin Circuit Court Feb. 18.
