KSU names head football coach

Kentucky State University has named interim Wayne Dickens as head football coach.

Athletic Director Denisha Hendricks cited Dickens’ performance as interim head coach during the 2009 football season, when the Thorobreds achieved their first winning season in three years with a 6-5 record. KSU’s defense is ranked 16th in the nation.

“He has successfully emerged through the process,” she said Tuesday in a press release. “He is a well-rounded coach with coaching experience on all levels.”

Dickens coached KSU's receivers during the 2008 football season. He served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach this season, along with his interim coaching duties. 

"It's exciting to be named head coach," Dickens said in a press release. "But looking back, it feels like a four-month interview. Now the hard work simply continues.”

Dickens replaces former coach Fred Farrier, who was dismissed July 25, just before his fifth season with the Thorobreds was set to begin. The university has declined to comment on his departure.

I really like how Athletic Director Denisha Hendricks has put her stamp on KSU athletics. I believe we are in for a resurgence of KSU athletics under her watch.

If I recall correctly, KSU now has a female President, Athletic Director and Police Chief. YEA!
