Drug dealer sentenced

One of the first graduates of Franklin County Drug Court has been sentenced Friday to five years in prison for selling painkillers.

Curtis Hendren, 40, of 214 Juniper Hill Apartments, sold 26 hydrocodone pills for $6 each to a police informant June 25, police reports say.

Hendren pleaded guilty to charges of trafficking in a controlled substance Oct. 9. As part of his plea agreement, his persistent felony offender charge was dropped.

“I’m really, really sorry for what I done,” Hendren told the court Friday before his sentencing.

“I screwed up.”

Franklin Circuit Judge Thomas Wingate said he was personally disappointed because he thought Hendren changed after graduating from drug court.

“I saw the progress you were making in drug court,” Wingate said in denying probation.

Hendren was one of three who graduated from drug court in May, Commonwealth’s Attorney Larry Cleveland told The State Journal when Hendren was indicted July 8.

Cleveland said he received a tip from other participants in drug court that Hendren offered to sell them drugs. Frankfort police investigated the incident and set up the June 25 drug deal, Cleveland said.

There is a tremendous drug problem in this community, the same with alcohol."

How do YOU know? I hear these hyperbolic claims all the time from folks who really have no idea what they are talking about. I am not saying that YOU don't, but just wondering what data are you referring to to make such a statement.

Since I was a child in the 60's, I have been hearing about the "drug epidemic" that is occurring in this town, state, nation, and it never has materialized yet. The predictions have always been that it will destroy our nation, families, etc., but that just has not happened.

About the only drug that has increased in usage lately is cigarettes, which an article in this paper says has increased lately.

I know several people who have felony convictions for drugs (which is one or two pain pills) and are now clean and sober and can't get a job because the employers won't hire a felon. So do they have to resort to selling drugs? Stupid! If you can pass a drug test and are a good worker it shouldn't matter that you had a felony when you were 18, 10 years ago!

There is a tremendous drug problem in this community, the same with alcohol. It is affecting the work force of small business in a very negative way. The need for quality people to work for small business is tremendous, but somehow this area has become one of the "milking spots" in the states.

I hear you ronandlane.
But if you want to have sex with little girls & boys, then all of those new york pedophiles can safely move to good ole frankfort ky. where the judges will make sure that you stay out of jail to continue their passions.

On a personal thought, people tend to tolerate people that are more like themselves!

Anyone involved in the drug trade here in Frankfort and in Kentucky in general needs their heads examined and is asking to have the book thrown at them. It does not take a rocket scientist to see how serious the courts are and the criminal justice system in general when it comes to dealing with serious crime and repeat offenders. This is not New York City or Philadelphia where individuals on this level ususually get a year in jail and a long stretch in Drug Treatment programs.
Kentucky throws out football numbers for sentences and that should speak volumes to anyone involved in illegal activities.
